Snow Kisses

We slowly walked down the paved road towards the edge of the park, heading to a nearby diner for breakfast. The cold wind was growing stronger. I looked up to the sky just as small white snowflakes began to descend, kissing my cheeks. Within minutes, the snow was falling harder - the ground blanketing in soft white powder.
Silas and I ducked under an old stone bridge as the sky became a veil of white. I shivered, rubbing my arms through my coat.
“The first snowfall of winter.” Silas said, his eyes watching the sky in delight. He wrapped his arms around my shoulders, his strong hands rubbing gently across my back, trying to keep me warm. Enveloped in the heat of his body and the scent of cloves and cinnamon, my mind began to dance. All around us was peaceful and quiet. I could hear his heart beating through his chest.
The moment just felt so perfect.
I tilted my head up, looking into his big emerald eyes. A soft contented smile held his lips as he gazed out at the snow - his lips, so close to mine. I didn’t think, I simply pushed my body upwards on my toes and pressed my mouth against his. His eyes widened in surprise and his hands tightened their grip, pulling me even closer.
What the hell am I doing?
My mind was begging me to stop, but my lips were desperately seeking his. My hands floated around his neck and locked behind his head, pulling him hard against me.
Stop. What am I doing?
It was no use. My body responded only to his touch as his hands glided up my back, twining softly in my loose hair. His lips crashed into mine - over and over - greedily tasting every inch of my mouth. My face tingled in response, my breathing ragged, my heart pounding against him as if trying to climb out of my body and into his.
I wanted him.
I wanted him so badly my chest felt like it was about to burst.

Footsteps approached through the snow and Silas pulled away, his eyes locking on the intruder as they stepped into the shelter under the bridge to get out of the storm. When his kisses stopped, I felt as if all the heat were being sucked from my body. My mind regained control and I gasped, realizing what I had done.
I placed my palms against his chest, my hands shaking as I pushed myself out of his arms.
“Denora, are you all right?” He took a step towards me and I backed further away. I was still drawn to him, his warm arms beckoning, and I knew that if he drew near enough to engulf me in his scent, I would be lost again.
I shook my head violently.
“I’m sorry.” I chewed my lower lip. The urge to throw myself back into him was overwhelming. “I shouldn’t have done that. I need to go.” Silas stared at me, his eyes lost in confusion and pain. He reached out his hand for mine and I stepped beyond his reach, pressing my back into the stone wall. The woman who had intruded turned her eyes away uncomfortably.
The look on Silas’ face, as if his heart were shattering, made my eyes sting with tears.
Without another thought, I turned on my heel and ran headlong into the snow, my legs pumping as fast as they could.
He could have easily caught me, but he knew better.
I ran, the cold wind filling my lungs, the snow pelting my face, cooling the heat from my cheeks. I ran until I reached the street and ducked down into the subway station.
